Our World of Technology
I still remember when my husband and I bought our first home computer. The oldest of our six children was four years old at the time, so it was 33 years ago. We paid $400 for that second-hand computer. My husband worked with technology, so bringing home a PC was quite exciting to him. I, on the other hand, did not relish the idea of having a home computer. It seemed so unnecessary to me. When the opportunity was presented to my husband to buy a friend’s older computer (the friend was upgrading), my husband presented the opportunity to me. We talked. He shared the pros. I shared the cons. He won. We bought the computer.
It did not take long before I learned some important facts about having a home computer. First, how did we survive before technology came into our home? Second, our 4-year-old quickly surpassed my technological abilities. Third, how DID we survive before we got a home computer?
Since that time three decades ago, technology has advanced far beyond what it used to be. My family experienced many more technology-firsts over the past 33 years. We first got the home computer, then the Internet, then cell phones, then the Internet on our cell phones, and the list goes on and on. So much of our day-to-day living is heavily reliant on technology. Seriously, how did we survive before technology entered our daily lives? Keeping up with technology is not only not unnecessary, but I dare say it is critically necessary.
Over the years, The Cornerstone Christian School has gratefully received refurbished computers for their computer lab and classrooms. These have been a big and beautiful blessing. Yet, the PCs are coming to the end of their lifespan. Upgrading is not only not unnecessary, but I dare say it is critically necessary.
CES experienced great joy last Friday in being able to present the school with a Computer Upgrade Grant for $8000. We are also in the midst of a capital campaign to continue supporting the school in reaching its 5-year technology strategic plan. We value your partnership. We covet your prayers.
